Types Of Teeth

Incisors:

The front eight thin, straight teeth are called incisors teeth. There are four teeth at the top and four at the bottom. These teeth bite into the food you eat and help you in pronouncing words when you speak. These teeth also support your lips.

Canines:

On each side of the upper and lower incisors, there is a single canine tooth. These teeth are called cuspids because they are slightly pointed and like incisors, they help in cutting your food and support your lips. When your upper and lower jaw come together, then canines helps in order to guide all the teeth into their place.

Premolars:

Premolars are situated behind the canines and are called by dentists as bicuspids. These teeth have flattened top and are used to chew food and maintain the height of the face. Dentist says that there are eight premolars in an adult’s mouth in which four are on the top and four are on the bottom.

Molars:

Molars are next to premolars. They are 12 in numbers with widest, flattest teeth which are situated six in the upper jaw and six in the lower. The four molars at the back of both the lower and upper jaws are called as wisdom tooth. Cleaning these teeth can be difficult because they are so far back in the mouth but slim toothbrushes can reach there. Orthodontics in North Austin can help you maintain these teeth properly. Like premolars, molars are also used for chewing food. Lower molars have two roots, while upper molars have three.
